Silversmith
[sil-ver-smith] noun
- An individual who designs and creates silver jewellery, including jewellery with precious and semi-precious gemstones. This may involve cutting, filing, bending, hammering, spinning, turning and casting the silver to form their jewellery. A variety of techniques are used to engrave and set the stones. Silversmiths may also cut, shape and polish raw gemstones to incorporate them into their designs.
Timeless beauty has been an inspiration for Lynda Carr for as long as she can remember. Vintage clothing, works of art, jewellery, furniture and architecture have always provided joy & intrigue. In 2003 Lynda took her new skills as a Silversmith and was searching for some creative stimulus to put her new skills to good use. Then her epiphany happened while marvelling at the intricate beauty of a late 1800’s butter dish lid. She saw this old and damaged lid as beautiful but also she saw the potential to make beautiful jewellery utilizing her new skills. She saw how she could make something old new again. At that marvelous moment, L Carr Designs Vintage was born.
Today, more than 20 years later and thousands of one-of-a-kind pieces of recycled wearable art, she continues to create necklaces, rings, earrings, bracelets and watches from her new studio tucked away in the Niagara countryside.
The studio provides a place for visitors to browse through the showroom, watch Lynda work on her craft, or even attend a Workshop to create their own one-of-a-kind piece of jewellery.
So remember, the next time you see something old, tired and tarnished it may actually be hiding something truly beautiful and unique.
